Snoring is caused by the partial closure of your airway during sleep due to a relaxation of the muscles in the neck. The soft tissue then vibrates to cause the snoring sound.
Snoring can have an adverse impact on the quality of life of both the snorer, their partner and in turn the rest of the family. Lack of sleep can cause daytime sleepiness, lack of energy, poor motivation, higher stress levels as well as impacting on your ability to work effectively or drive even the shortest distance. The other more worrying side effects of snoring can be increased blood pressure, increased risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
In more serious cases a sufferer stops snoring and breathing for a few seconds and then starts again following a choke, gasp or snort. Every time the sufferer stops breathing they are starved of oxygen so the brain instructs the body to partially awaken by releasing adrenalin so robbing them of a restful sleep. This leaves them exhausted and may contribute to a host of other health issues. This is known as Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA).
If you identify with any of the symptoms above – even if it’s just a nagging partner – here at Marchmont Dental Care we can help. With the assistance of your GP and in the case of sleep apnoea, a sleep study recorder to diagnose OSA, we can fit a Sleepwell device.
A Sleepwell device is made to individual requirements using impressions of your teeth taken by one of our dentists here at Marchmont Dental Care. Sleepwell is a two piece device with a soft inner lining which can be adjusted to maximum effectiveness and comfort. Clinically proven, it is a life changing treatment for those who are or live with a snorer.
Snoring treatment prices start from £480.
